If you’ve ever seen anything about music theory, you’d agree it pretty much looks like math.

I do not care much for math.

But I do care about music.

Music has been a constant in my life since an early age. From guitar solos to melodic Swedish power metal progressions, to piano concerts. I think I’ve always had a good ear, so I could pick up when I liked things in songs right away. I didn’t become a musician when I grew up, though. That space in my life belonged to animation. However, music never left my side. I dabbled in guitar for a while, even trying to start up a metal band!

But I didn’t. In the end, I became an animator and dedicated my life to moving, visual stuff. I kept enjoying listening to my favourite bands and musicians on the side, and the flame of music burned very slowly in the background.

For a few years, I kept thinking I’d like to get back to music, even learn a new instrument, like the piano.

Then, one day…

COVID happened.

And besides learning how to bake like everyone else who didn’t get their lives interrupted dramatically…

… I decided to get myself a keyboard and learn music. Not just learn how to play, I wanted to understand music. So my new hobby became music theory.

…

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYIKES.
